I picked up my RF 200-800 at the Fedex office this afternoon. It was getting late and weather was ugly in Atlanta so I didn't get a chance to test out the lens. Since I couldn't shoot, I decided my first test would be to determine which camera bag would be required for the lens. I have both the Mindhift Backlight 18L & 26l, but the 18L is my go to for most trips including Africa. I love the 100-500 and plan to ease into the 200-800 by taking both lenses on a couple of trips.
In the main compartment of the 18L Photo below:
- R7 + 100-500 w/hood (Note: tripod collar removed)
- R6II + 200-800 w/hood
- RF 24-105 f4 L IS w/hood in case.
- !0x Monocular
- Card Case
- Batteries
- Note - No room for a battery grip and R3 would be a non-starter in the 18L
This would be my shooting configuration with lens/bodies attached.
Not a lot of free space but it does zip even with the 200-800 collar. The 18L would be provide plenty of room if I was only going to carry the 200-800. I would probably use the 18L for local or smaller trips and move to the 26L for longer trips. The 200-800 definitely takes up a lot of room in the bag.
BTW - I am not a fan of the fixed collars. It is large and tends to get in the way.
