I also had the EOS R (same sensor as the 5d IV) and would never go back. R5 is clearly better in all aspects but what really surprises me is how good the R6 ii/R8 is looking. I prefer the 24mp of this generation over the 30mp of the 5d IV.
If you ask me the R8 on sale at around 1100$ is the best deal today and probably all time across all manufacturers. Just last week when I shot it side by side with my Nikon Zf I was shocked how well the whole package performs (sensor in conjunction with the digic x + current implementation of AF and of course the user interface), especially compared to more expensive and much more hyped cameras like the Zf. Even my R5 is really only better if I actually need the resolution or the IBIS (which is rare). Same applies to the R6 II but price / performance ratio is worse (except for when you need those additional features).
Totally agree about R8. I bought it first and then a refurbished R5 during the black Friday sales. I struggled quite a bit to find a reason to keep the R5, since R8 performed so well. At the end, I do decide to keep the R5, and the primary reason is the higher resolution so that I can enjoy zooming to 200% to see absurd details.
