Printers and Printing Forum
I recently moved from the US to Europe, and my belongings were in transit for a month overseas. Dealing with customs took an additional 5 months, so my printer was off for 6 months in total. Don't even ask why it took so long... bureaucracy.
Despite I knew that after being packed for so long, it might not work perfectly, I decided not to sell my P900 prior to the move. During the packing, I removed the cartridges, placed them in a ziplock bag, and protected the printer as best as I could in its original box.
Yesterday, I decided to test it in my new home. When I plugged in the EU cable (not the one that came with the printer in the US), without even turning on the printer, it started smoking heavily from the rear side. I also heard a strange sound, as if something was burning rapidly. The smoke was so thick that I couldn't even reach the plug. I waited for it to stop and opened all the windows to let the smoke dissipate.
The smell lingered for a few hours. Initially, I thought the printer was dead, so I didn't even try to turn it on. Instead, I started researching online to find out what might have happened. After about 20-30 minutes, I decided to give it a try and turn it on. To my surprise, it worked! I was able to connect it to Wi-Fi and update the firmware. I then performed some maintenance, printed a few tests, and everything was back to normal.
I'm quite puzzled about what happened. What burned and why is it still working?
